On Tuesday, March 1, state police arrested Kenneth Gordon, age 20, of Hartford, and a 16-year-old boy following a five-month investigation into the events which took place at the Big Y parking lot in Marlborough on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2021.
At the time of the crime, police said the 64-year-old woman was getting into her car with groceries when she was approached by two masked men who demanded money.
When she resisted, the two, armed with a handgun, threw a bag over her head and struck her face several times with a hard object, police said.
The duo then took off with her in the backseat, driving to a food mart in East Hartford where they used an ATM to withdraw money.
They then drove to Berlin, where they threw the woman out of her vehicle and abandoned the vehicle after lighting it on fire, and took off in another car.
Both suspects, who are being held on a $1 million bail were charged with:
- Assault
- Robbery
- Kidnapping
- Conspiracy to commit robbery
- Arson
- Larceny
The 16-year-old was ordered to be held in a juvenile detention center.
"We would like to thank the Berlin Police Department, Homeland Security, Hartford PD, East Hartford PD, Windsor PD, Manchester PD, Glastonbury PD, Middletown PD, and Wethersfield PD for their roles in assisting with this investigation," state police said.
